This resource was created to support the following 3rd-grade math TEKS:

3.6C - determine the area of rectangles with whole number side lengths in problems using multiplication related to the number of rows times the number of unit squares in each row;

3.6D - decompose composite figures formed by rectangles into non-overlapping rectangles to determine the area of the original figure using the additive property of area;

What teachers are saying…

❤️  “Most of my students need the visual to help them understand Area.  I enjoyed doing this whole group and having students enjoy doing the work independently and in small groups.” - Tammy G.

❤️  “I love digital Google Classroom activities, and this was perfect for that. I did some slides as a whole group to make sure they knew what to do. Then they worked with partners to discuss the multiple ways to distribute the tiles. Finally, they did some independently. There were ample slides for practice. Thanks so much!” - Laura B.

❤️  “This was great!  My students were struggling with the area, and this really helped!” - Rachel F.
