Description

If your students are anything like mine, they get finding area and perimeter mixed up! This fun activity is to help students practice finding both, with a focus on composite figures.

How it works:

Scavenger hunt activities are such a hit in my class!

In the PDF there are 12 pages, each with a question about finding area or perimeter. The teacher should post these around the classroom. Students can pick any of the papers to start with. The bottom half will have a question. Students will complete the work on their paper, and arrive at an answer. The answers to questions are on the top half of each paper. Students will look around the room for the correct answer, and then go to that paper to complete the next problem, and so forth. I usually model this in class for students to get an idea of what the activity looks like. They love having the chance to move around!

As a teacher, I also love it because students can check their own work - if they get an answer that they don't see, they know they did something wrong and can try to find their mistake. Students can keep track of the order they complete the questions by writing down the letter in each corner of the paper, and I use that to check them at the end. If done correctly, it will spell out AREPIMTSCVNG (although it will look different depending on which question they start with, so something like PIMTSCVNGARE is also correct).
