Description

To complete this autumn mystery your students will work in small groups, use their detective notes, and solve language tasks to discover who has picked all of Granny Smith's apples. After solving the tasks, you might want to follow our simple recipe to make individual apple pies using graham crackers, apple pie filling, whipped cream, and cinnamon. An optional "how to" writing piece is included.

Oh no! Granny Smith wants to make her famous apple pie, but all of her apples have been picked off her tree! Can you help her find who picked all the apples? I know you can do it!

Clue #1 (long vowel sounds) – Each of the words has a long vowel. Sort the words to the correct suspect. Whoever has the most words did NOT take pick all of Granny Smith’s apples!

Clue #2 (complete sentences) – Each suspect wrote a sentence. Only one of them is correct! Whoever has the complete sentence is NOT the apple thief!

Clue #3 (word categories) – Each suspect has a category. Sort the noun cards to the correct category. Whoever has the most cards did NOT take all the apples from the tree.

Clue #4 (central message) – The central message is the lesson you learn from a story. Read the story and figure out who has the correct central message. Whoever has it did NOT pick all the apples!

The mystery ends with an apple pie treat!
