Are you looking for an anti-racism activity for your Kindergarten or Grade 1 Primary French Immersion classroom? This Virtual Field trip about skin and skin colour is perfect to use in your primary Social Studies and Science lessons. This is perfect for Black History Month or any time of year. It includes 13 Google Slides, for students to practice reading and learn about the largest organ in our bodies, skin! Students will learn the functions of our skin (to regulate temperature and protect us from germs) as well as why everyone has their own unique shade of skin. Students will learn about melanin and how, when a person has more melanin in their skin, their skin is darker. The text is simple, concise and summarizes skin and skin colour in a kid-friendly way. Students will brainstorm what they know, wonder and want to learn about skin, practice spelling the word melanin, watch a video story about skin colour, listen to a song about skin colour, There is also directed drawing video portion.
THIS RESOURCE IS IN FRENCH
Anti-racism Activity Virtual Field Trip for Kindergarten and Grade 1 | FRENCH:
- You will be prompted to make a copy of the presentation in your Google Slides
- Project it on your screen or have students complete it on a computer or iPad
- You read the text on the slides or have students read them aloud
- As a class, fill out the know/wonder/learn slides
- On the drag and drop slides, you can have students take turns moving the moveable pieces
- Use the line tool to link the matching colours of skin to the crayons
- Watch the video story as a class
- Complete the directed drawing slide and display your self-portrait
