This Animal Babies and Parents unit was created with the intention of integrating science and language arts in your primary classroom. The beautiful, high quality photographs used in this unit are highly engaging for young students.

In this unit you will find:
-17 nonfiction articles (that can be arranged into 4 books). Text dependent writing prompts are provided for each article. These articles can be used as a read aloud or as close reading texts. These articles were written to correlate first grade science and ELA standards. (Younger students will benefit from having these texts read aloud to them.)
-26 beautiful, high quality posters of animal babies with their parents. These posters make a beautiful class display. They can be used to facilitate class discussions or to be posted with a whole group writing prompt.
-a sorting activity (perfect for a pocket chart or science center) that focuses on the behavior of parent animals
-an activity containing 12 task cards and 26 photo cards that can be used in a writing center. These tasks can be completed individually, in pairs, or small groups.
