Description
Bring life and color to your Cold War and/or Vietnam War unit with this activity!
In this fun, self-guided, self-paced lesson, students explore protest songs from the Vietnam War. They'll be taken to a colorful, engaging page full of hidden interactive links. Each link will take them to a different protest song for them to listen to. Lyrics are included. I've also snuck in some fun links for further enrichment and extension. Some examples include a 360-degree tour of an old VW Bus and a virtual field trip to the Vietnam War exhibit at Lyndon B. Johnson's Presidential Library.
As students explore these songs and the culture surrounding the era, they'll be guided through a series of song analysis questions. These questions will guide them to a richer and fuller understanding of The Cold War, The Vietnam War, and the 1960s/70s.
After they complete their analysis, students will be challenged to think of an issue that they care deeply about. Then, they'll have a chance to write a protest song of their own!
