Amoeba Sisters Stroll Through the Playlist (a Biology Review) Video Companion

A) Can you access our free Amoeba Sisters Stroll Through the Playlist (a Biology Review) video on YouTube on the internet network where you will be using it, and have you watched the full video to determine it is a good fit for your class? This resource is a companion to that video, so if the video is not ideal for your course or cannot be accessed, this video companion will not be ideal either.

B) Does the format/layout of this resource, which is shown in the downloadable preview, work for your students? To determine this, we included the cover page and then the second page from our product in the preview---all of the product’s following pages have this type of layout. You can see the general format, font size, and spacing in this preview. As you can see from the preview, this product contains no images.

C) Can you open zip files? This is a zip file.

What is in this zip folder? This zip folder includes two PDF documents that are not-editable. One PDF document is a (A) a short “Read-Me” document which has helpful information for teachers and the second PDF document is a (B) 15 page video companion handout.

10/27/21 ADDED ADDITIONAL OPTION WHERE STUDENTS CAN DO THIS VIRTUALLY VIA TPT EASEL: We added an additional format of this companion handout in the format of TpT Easel which provides students a virtual highlighting tool, virtual pen, text tool, etc). It is exactly like the PDF except that it allows those features if wanting students to do this online ---- it is NOT a drag and drop Easel and has NO moveable elements as that is not relevant to this activity.

What is this resource designed to do? This video companion handout is designed to help students interact with the Amoeba Sisters Stroll Through the Playlist (a Biology Review) video. This handout provides an easy to annotate, edited form of the video script. This is an edited script with improvements from the spoken audio to make it easier to annotate. This resource also guides students to identify vocabulary, determine what they need to revisit, ask questions that interest them, and it has its own questions that guide students in sketching concepts. IMPORTANT: Many of the sketch questions are not directly answered in the edited script. (Ex: asking students to sketch food examples that contain the different biomolecules or sketching the mitosis stages) When this occurs, students may need to go through old notes, discuss in class, or they can watch one of our short videos that correspond to that specific topic. We want to encourage active engagement with their material which helps with studying the concepts.

What is this resource not designed to do? As mentioned in the product description, this is not the actual, real-time spoken script of the video so it is not meant to be used as captions in real-time. (If students need to see what is actually spoken in the video, they can click the “CC” button at the bottom right of the YouTube player to see those captions in real-time as the video is viewed). This resource cannot cover all concepts; it focuses on main concepts from a selection of the videos in our large biology playlist. There is no answer key for this kind of resource; we expect student sketches and student questions will vary.

While this resource you are viewing will have students underlining vocabulary words, if you'd like students to additionally practice using the vocabulary in a drag and drop, self-checking online resource - check out our vocabulary TpT Easels! We think the vocabulary easels are a great complement to this resource.

What are the terms of use for this product? This product is licensed to you, the purchaser, to use with all students that you directly teach. You may print this resource for the students that you teach. This can also be used electronically as well---provided it is only accessible to the students that you teach and not publicly available---i.e. it needs to be behind a password protected website, platform, Google Classroom, etc. so that is not available publicly. A teacher's public website or blog, for example, would not be permitted.

If I am going to print it and make copies for my students, what would you suggest? In this case, we highly suggest printing front and back. To further save paper, you can choose to avoid printing the cover page of the video companion (page 1 which has suggestions for students) and instead go over those suggestions with students out loud. Then you can print pages 2-15 front and back, which would be 7 pages total if you made copies front and back. Please encourage students to recycle when done! As an alternative, you can use this resource electronically as long as it is behind a password protected website, LMS, Google Classroom, etc where you need a password or code to access---it just can’t be posted online publicly.
