What educators are saying

Quick and easy research project as we were learning about the American Revolution. I loved that there were so many to choose from.
My students really enjoyed this activity and were able to learn about Revolutionary War people that they hadn't heard of previously.

Description

This American Revolution mini-research project is designed to be fun and meaningful! During this research project, students will research an important historical figure from the American Revolution. Students will present their research in an interactive pop-up profile card.

  • As students develop their projects, they will learn about conducting research, validating sources, taking notes, avoiding plagiarism, and compiling their research.
  • Guided questions are included to help students conduct targeted research.
  • Students will compile their research and create an interactive research project. The project will include clues about the person, details about his or her life, and reasons why this person was significant in history.
  • The final project is an interactive pop-up profile.
  • This project is designed for 7 class periods.

This resource is designed to be incredibly engaging!

  • CHOICE: Students can choose to research a person from the Revolutionary War from the profiles provided or select their own research subject.
  • BACKGROUND: Before students begin their research, there are mini-lessons on the elements of research. This sets students up for success as they complete their project.
  • FRAMEWORK: Guided questions are provided to help students focus and develop their research skills.
  • STYLE: The style of the final project is meant to be engaging without making research intimidating. The infographic style of the report provides a fun framework for sharing research.
  • RIGOR: After students complete their research, they need to create clues about their subject. These clues help students show their learning. Then, they need to explain why the person they researched should be studied. This takes their learning even further.
  • COMMUNITY-BUILDING: Students have several opportunities to work with their peers, including while they preview, edit, and revise their reports. In addition, the project lends itself to sharing. Therefore, students can teach and learn from one another.
