Description
In this American Imperialism, Spanish-American War, Annexation of Hawaii, and Indian Wars Guided Notes & PowerPoint Set, you receive a 35-slide PowerPoint presentation and a 4-page guided notes set for instruction on American expansion and imperialism in the late-19th and early-20th century. This unit PowerPoint is synced to go hand-in-hand with my US Imperialism unit here!
Students are instructed on the expansion of the United States beginning with the Indian Wars in the 1870s and 1880s. Students learn about the Black Hills region of modern-day South Dakota, General George Custer and "Custer's Last Stand," and the Wounded Knee Massacre. Then, the student notes advance to international expansion, beginning with the work of Admiral Matthew Perry and his opening of Japan, the purchase of Alaska (nicknamed "Seward's Folly"), the annexation of Hawaii, the Spanish-American War and the work of Theodore Roosevelt in the "Rough Riders," the Philippine–American War, the creation of the Panama Canal, the "Banana Wars" in Honduras and Nicaragua, and the "Open Door Policy" in China.
This unit PowerPoint and Guided Notes set is entirely editable, plus it includes a full "Teacher Guide" with break points in the notes for you to stop and explore an event with much more detail by using my unit resources.
Enjoy!
