Description

*BONUS EXPERIENCE INCLUDED*

Find the Magu´s review of Alma and How She Got Her Name here!

This lesson plan is all you need to deliver a MEANINGFUL and HOLISTIC literacy experience to children between 3 to 6 years old. The experiences outlined in this lesson are based on the marvelous picture book Alma and How She Got Her Name, written and illustrated by Juana Martinez-Neal. This book talks about the story of a little girl called Alma, who is curious about the roots of her very long name. It is a gentle approach to understand children’s family histories!

  • With this lesson, your students or children, will be working on:

Cognitive development: by developing letter and word recognition, by problem-solving, by practising critical thinking. By matching names and images from the story.

Physical development: by movement experiences that enhance gross motor skills. By an arts and crafts experience that help with fine motor skills.

Social and emotional development: by developing a sense of identity, self-love and self-appreciation. By exploring their family and background history,

Language development: by learning vocabulary about identity, family and community. By expressing their ideas and opinions through open-ended questions. By learning how to say “my name is” in SPANISH!

…in short, this is a complete, valuable and holistic experience for preschoolers!

…………………………………………………………………………………………..

Lesson Lenght: from one to two hours (the time is flexible, if you decide to guide this lesson, you can decide what experiences to use according to the child or the group of children under your care).

Contains:

10 non-prep or VERY easy to prep experiences.

1 PDF document with everything you need (including the storytelling of the story, in the case you don’t have the physical book)

Magu´s note on the lesson: READ THIS nowadays teachers don’t have time to prep holistic experiences for preschool children based on books (let me tell you, I hear you. I used to be an educator myself, and the 90% of the time I spent was making sure children were alive and tidying up toys!). However, we all know how important early literacy is for children. Reading stories together is EXTREMELY beneficial for early childhood development, and when we extend those reading moments with meaningful experiences, it benefits our children even more.

…Teacher, educator, parent, carer, worry no more! I am here to save your bacon and prep literacy lesson plans that will change your child(ren) world!
