What educators are saying

I use this as a part of my figurative language stations. Students usually struggle with allusions, so this is a great way to reinforce those skills.
This was a very engaging activity that gave students a chance to really think through the purpose of allusions!

Description

Allusion is a powerful device, but students can easily miss it if they aren't familiar with how it is used. This fun activity gives them practice identifying both mythology-based and pop-culture-oriented allusions as they blend the two in a hilarious, brain-stretching exercise.

First, students are split into teams, and each team draws a mythology card, a pop culture card, and a scenario card.

Then each team must script a conversation that alludes to facts from both the mythology card and pop culture card.

When the teams present their conversations to the class, many laughs ensue, but the skills stick with the students long after the activity has ended.

This resource includes the following:

✅ A page of teacher's instructions to get you started

✅ 10 Mythology Cards

✅ 10 Pop Culture Cards

✅ 10 Scenario Cards

Bring fun and clarity to allusions with this engaging activity!
