Description

The intent of our Mathnerdy columns is to provide teachers and students with quick review problems in a game-like format. Working quickly under pressure is an actuality on Proficiency Tests, ACTs and SATs. Our Mathnerdy columns afford timed responses, in a fun and non-threatening atmosphere, that put a little pressure on the student. We have ten sets of 20 “Mathnerdy” columns, for fifth grade students through Calculus, so our “Mathnerdys” review many, many topics at varying levels of difficulty. They will definitely help in enabling the student to discover quicker ways of answering summative assessment questions at all middle school and high school grade levels and subjects.
For the teacher they afford another opportunity to vary classroom routine. Whether it’s played at the end of a grading period as a review for a major test, on the day before a vacation to recap recent lessons, or as a classroom warm-up/cool-down . . . students will enjoy playing and answering. Our column headings are intended to be campy for a student responder to direct the moderator to. But the problems and pressures confronted by the student within the problem sets with timed responses (determined by the teacher/moderator for the individual column) will enhance the skills and speed necessary for college boards, quiz bowl meets, math count sessions, and even for classroom and standardized tests.
Each individual packet is composed of ten pages which compose twenty columns of Mathnerdy Game questions. (We’ve also included in the “preview” a template that is user-friendly with Microsoft word, though I’m sure that other word-processing programs will work just fine.) HOW teachers will employ and use them will vary, but we designed them so that the question columns and the answer columns can be fit back-to-back, then, perhaps, pasted together and cut . . . so that columns can be used individually or grouped together to “suit one’s fancy.” Our template has been included so teachers can create their own columns that match with our twenty more easily.
