All About Me: Great Activities for First Day/ Week of School (Special Education)

Book List: To help immerse students in various forms of literature, our units contain a variety of texts. Some books will need to be purchased, while other books we write ourselves. Many teachers check out the books from their library, or opt for YouTube read-alouds. You can check out our book list here.

Having both taught in self-contained special education classrooms, Gabrielle (Teaching Special Thinkers) and Michaela (Especially Education) have experienced the difficulties and frustrations of finding appropriate resources to meet the needs of their students. 

The mission behind Made For Me Literacy is to provide teachers with engaging, comprehensive reading units that were designed with special learners in mind. These monthly-themed units span various subject areas, including basic reading, writing, math, science, and fine motor skills. We are now including digital centers (Boom Cards) that can be completed on any device and are perfect for distant learning!

Differentiation is often a time consuming and tedious process. But not anymore! Many activities included in the Made For Me Literacy curriculum provide two or three levels of difficulty. Meeting the needs of all your students is easy with the differentiation already done for you.

In each unit, we will be curating 4 WHOLE WEEKS of literacy instruction. 

Each unit includes:

-4 weeks of literacy instruction: We provide a curriculum map calendar overview of what to do day by day for the whole month. Follow our plans, or pick and choose which activities work for you and your students!

-Each month, we include resources for 2 kid-approved fiction books and we wrote out our own non-fiction book and poem 

Resources for each book include: 

-Story map pictures (author, illustrator, character, setting, title, sequence)

-2 levels of Wh- questions with visual answer choices (printable or interactive on any device - Boom Card versions included!)

-2 levels of assessments (picture cues, word cues, and blank to fill in the answer)

*Also included are schedule cards to display during story time, choice board for books, and free story map to assemble

To go along with the read alouds/poems for the unit, we include:

10 vocabulary word cards: We include posters to display in your classroom. There are real life versions and clip are versions included.

20 daily activities: These include anchor charts, predictable writing chart & class book, Easy Art crafts, process art crafts, writing activities, class graphs, labeling/butcher paper activities, sensory bins, and visual recipes (snack and sensory fun!).

20 centers: Our centers cover literacy, math, vocabulary, and the cross-curriculum theme for each month. There are 12 print and prep centers of your favorites (think task boxes, file folders, flip-and-write book). Each of these centers comes with an expansion activity already included. We also include 8 DIGITAL centers that can be accessed on any device (printable version, interactive version, and Boom Cards versions ALL included!). 

16 skill practice sheets: Print and go, and perfect for reinforcing skills covered in the unit.
