Algebra Introduction: Variables, Algebraic Expressions and Value Tables
What educators are saying
Description
Are you introducing algebra to your class for the first time? This resource was created with an introductory algebra lesson in mind.
This resource focuses on four areas: introducing variables, finding the value of a variable using a given algebraic expression, solving an algebraic expression with a given value, and value tables.
For each section, there is a guided notes page or two, a practice page, and then a "create your own" page where students apply their learning to create expressions and rules for partners to follow. Each "create your own" has two versions: one for working with a partner and one without. This will allow for some flexibility in your lesson.
There is also a final review page with practice on all of the introduced concepts that would be perfect as a quick assessment or homework assignment.
This is most appropriate for students in grades 4-5 who are being introduced to algebra for the first time or need a quick reteaching.
