This was a super fun resource to help 6th graders understand the Trans Saharan Trade! We did the notes first and then students completed the activity. It was great to help them practice analyzing sources.
It was a quick, low-prep way to get students moving around and collaborating with one another on a topic I otherwise find difficult to get students engaged in.
Description
Students will learn about the trans-Saharan trade through a detailed presentation and engaging primary source activity. After students complete fill-in-the-blank notes, they will “trade” primary source documents to complete their analysis. This lesson gradually releases students to do the work of historians and has them determine the significance of this trade network.
