Description

Great mapping activity for both in-person and virtual students. The Africa Interactive Map Tour allows students to navigate a Prezi presentation as they label and color their blank map at their own pace. The activity allows for differentiation among students at different levels and is great for ESL learners. The Map Tour includes:

  • Blank Africa Maps: Blank political maps of the region are ready to be printed and great for students to label and color. One map has a list of key terms for students to define. The other does not include the key terms.

  • Interactive Prezi Map Tour: The Prezi Map Tour guides students at their own pace as they label their maps step by step. The presentation gives students control to navigate the map as they progressively flow throughout the region. One Map tour includes key terms defined in the presentation, they other does not. Each tour includes embedded interactive videos.

  • Embedded 360 degree interactive videos: As students navigate the map tour they will encounter 360 degree videos embedded within the presentation. These videos give students control of the camera as they view the amazing features in which they are labeling on their maps. Videos include: Camel Ride through the Pyramids of Giza, Guided Daytime/Nighttime Tour of the Sahara Desert, Gorillas of the Congo, Victoria Falls: The Devil's Pool, and African Safari through Kurger National Park.

The quality of maps I have received from students is 100% better when using the map tour as compared to when they search through an atlas on their own. The videos give the map a sense of reality and help to pique student interest in the region. The availability of the Prezi presentations allows students to work on the map at their own pace and at the location of their choosing.
