    Teaching children to think critically about advertising is important within our media-saturated society. It seems that advertising is everywhere we look, and this has become even more prevalent with the role that digital media plays in our lives and how easily accessible we are to companies trying to sell us a product.

    Although we can’t control the advertisements that our students will be exposed to, we can teach them skills in developing a critical perspective when viewing advertisements in order to understand how they are being persuaded and in turn make informed choices.

    Within this product are a wide range of resources to teach children explicit skills in deconstructing advertisements and understanding how companies use persuasive techniques to sell a product.

    I have separated this resource into the following sections

    What is Advertising, Where do we find it, and What is a Target Audience: Advertisement fact sheets; Introductory activities; Image vs. Advertisement activity; Formative ad design activity; Advertisement scavenger hunt, Magazine search templates; Target Audience activities and Tic-Tac-Toe.
