What educators are saying

I used this resource for independent time during center rotations for my more advanced students who need extra help with money and as a review of adding and subtracting 3 digit numbers.
I love resources that incorporate real life learning! My students had a great time completing this project!

Description

This is a rigorous, engaging math project that requires students to tackle real life problems using addition, subtraction, and some rounding while working a booth at a farmers’ market. Students will use critical thinking and reasoning skills in this extended project. This is also a great opportunity to connect math to social studies (economy and entrepreneurship) and the environment (shopping small and local)!

This project includes differentiation options (simpler numbers and concepts) for some of the tasks in this project. Use these options to meet the needs of your students. An answer key is also included for your convenience.

In this project, students will:

  • add 2- and 3-digit numbers to calculate weights of produce in grams
  • round and add weights of produce (options without rounding are included)
  • calculate total cost of transactions and money left over
  • calculate and compare money made at the farmers' market over time
  • add and subtract 2- and 3-digit numbers to manage inventory
