Description

Addition and Subtraction Equations Task Cards (CCSS 1.OA.D.7 and 1.OA.D.8)-determine if addition and subtraction equations are true or false; finding the missing value in addition and subtraction equations

These Addition and Subtraction Equations Task cards contain 24 different cards for Grade 1 based on the Common Core State Standards. These cards can also be used at the end of Kindergarten or as a review at the beginning of Grade 2.

Addition and Subtraction Equations Task cards help with understanding of the meaning of the equal sign and require students to determine if equations involving addition and subtraction are true or false. Students must also determine the unknown whole number in an addition or subtraction equation relating three whole numbers.

These addition and subtraction equations task cards can be used in learning centers, for independent review, or in a game setting. The cards can be printed in color or grayscale. For long term use, you will want to laminate the cards first or insert them into the pages of a small 4x6 photo album where students can write their answers directly on each page with a dry erase marker. You can use all cards in the set or just a section of the set. CCSS.1.OA.D.7 is part of all of the odd-numbered cards. CCSS.1.OA.D.8 is part of all of the even-numbered cards. The following Common Core standards are covered:

Work with addition and subtraction equations:

*CCSS.Math.Content.1.OA.D.7 Understand the meaning of the equal sign, and determine if equations involving addition and subtraction are true or false. For example, which of the following equations are true and which are false? 6 = 6, 7 = 8 – 1, 5 + 2 = 2 + 5, 4 + 1 = 5 + 2.

*CCSS.Math.Content.1.OA.D.8 Determine the unknown whole number in an addition or subtraction equation relating three whole numbers. For example, determine the unknown number that makes the equation true in each of the equations 8 + ? = 11, 5 = _ – 3, 6 + 6 = _.
