What educators are saying

My students loved this, I sent this home to use as a family project and received a lot of compliments.
I like this resource, it is very organized and easy to navigate. I like that the kids get excited about it not being a lot of work too.

    Description

These toolkits are designed to help you measure and track your students’ addition, subtraction, multiplication and division fact fluency. They include tools you can use in the classroom, and tools you can send home to support routine fact fluency practice. The focus of each tool in these kits is to boost student confidence through the use of simple visual layouts, and routine opportunities for self-reflection.

If you are interested in learning how I use these tools in my third grade classroom, visit my blog to read my post Fact Fluency Without Tears.

    WHAT’S INCLUDED IN EACH TOOLKIT:

Fact Fluency Quizzes: Half-sheet fact fluency quizzes formatted with simplicity in mind make it manageable for a wide variety of learners to demonstrate their knowledge.  Quizzes include equations for all factors or divisors in random order on one half-sheet page.

Answer Key Options: Answer keys for each quiz are provided in two time-saving formats. Decide if you prefer to create an answer key booklet or an answer key card deck.

The booklet format allows you to easily flip to the answer key that corresponds to the quiz you’re grading, slide the quiz underneath the answer key, and check each answer for accuracy through a viewer window.

The card deck format allows you to easily grab the answer key card that corresponds to the quiz you are grading, place the card on top of the quiz, and check each answer for accuracy through a viewer window.

Teacher Tracking Sheets: Printable and editable versions of this spreadsheet allow you to track your students’ progress toward mastering their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. This sheet also serves as an easy-to-read reference for creating skills-based small groups.

Student Goal Trackers: Tracker bookmark help your students track their own progress toward their learning targets. Students simply color each level they’ve mastered.

Student Reflection Pages: Use these reflection pages to guide students in routine self reflections throughout the process of building fact fluency. A ready-to-print, and editable version of the two reflection page formats are included. Reflection pages designed for growing readers include visuals that can be circled or colored. Reflection pages designed for strong readers include open-ended questions that prompt reflection.

Introductory Note for Parents: Introduce parents to the routines you’ll be using in the classroom to measure fact fluency this school year, and the collection of tools they can use to practice multiplication and division facts at home. An editable and ready-to-print version of this letter is included.

Printable Addition & Subtraction Math Tools: Blank number line models (up to 20), part-part-whole models (bar format and number bond format), and double ten frames are perfect to use in the classroom, and include in your home practice toolkit for families.

Multiplication Table Printables: These tables are perfect for using in the classroom, and including in your home practice toolkit for families. A 10 x 10 table and a 12 x 12 table is included to meet the unique needs of your classroom A blank and completed version of each table is provided.

Fact Family Number Bond Flash Cards: These clean, simple flash cards are ready to print, cut, and use in the classroom, or include in your home practice toolkit for families. When using these flash cards, students find the missing number in the number bond, then recite the entire fact family that corresponds to the card.

Fact Fluency Games & Online Resources: Two Math In Motion Hands-On Math Games to help students build their fact fluency through game play. A list of online resources to learn and practice multiplication and division facts in engaging and creative ways. These resources can be used in the classroom, and included in your home practice toolkit for families.

    BENEFITING STUDENTS

The fact fluency practice quizzes in this resource are designed with all learners in mind. The simple format of each quiz reduces visual overwhelm, and helps students focus on showing what they know.

The reflection pages in this toolkit give students routine opportunities to:

★ Think about their progress toward reaching learning goals.

★ Make plans to continue improving their fact fluency.

★ Brainstorm tools or practice routines that support their learning growth.

    SCAFFOLDING MADE EASY

When using this toolkit to track your students’ progress toward fact fluency, you will have the data you need to create skill-based small groups, and design lessons that meet the needs of your students.

The suggested pacing schedule supports a wide range of learners in reaching mastery of their facts by the middle of the school year so they can enrich their understanding throughout the remainder of the year. This pacing schedule gives students plenty of time to practice & master their facts, but does not restrict students from progressing at a faster pace if they are ready.

    BOOSTING RIGOR

The addition & subtraction toolkit includes everything you need to assess students’ mastery of addition and subtraction facts up to 20.

The multiplication & division toolkit includes everything you need to assess students’ mastery of multiplication and division facts up to 100, or up to 144 depending on the unique needs of your class.

    SAVING TIME

As a teacher, one of the most frustrating parts of measuring the growth of students’ fact fluency is the tedious process of scoring student work for accuracy. The fact fluency quizzes in this toolkit are a breeze for you to grade because of the unique answer key format. Simply lay the answer key cards on top of each students’ quiz & quickly check for answer accuracy without the need to solve hundreds of equations during your grading session.

    Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten (e.g., 8 + 6 = 8 + 2 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (e.g., 13 - 4 = 13 - 3 - 1 = 10 - 1 = 9); using the relationship between addition and subtraction (e.g., knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 - 8 = 4); and creating equivalent but easier or known sums (e.g., adding 6 + 7 by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13).
Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies. By end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers.
Fluently multiply and divide within 100, using strategies such as the relationship between multiplication and division (e.g., knowing that 8 × 5 = 40, one knows 40 ÷ 5 = 8) or properties of operations. By the end of Grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers.
