Description

These documents are great for practicing simple single digit addition and subtraction as well as referencing a small list to complete basic math word problems. Students will also practice finding the lowest and highest number from the list. They are also great because you can randomize the numbers so that you will constantly be able to print new sheets with different math problems.

The purchase includes 10 different themed pages with simple math word problems. The 10 themes are: fruits, vegetables, school items, clothing items, toys, kitchen items, random stuff, animals, nature items and food items. For each themed page, there are 5 different pictures with various questions for each picture. Each picture will have a small list of 4 people along with how many items each of those 4 people have. For example, there is a fruit theme and one of the pictures is an orange. Next to the orange, there is a list of four different names and how many oranges they have (ex. John = 5 oranges, Erika = 3 oranges, Carlos = 1 orange, Karla = 7 oranges). Under each picture, there are three math related questions in reference to the list. The first question is an addition question such as “How many oranges do Erika and Carlos have?” The second question will ask the student to find the person who has the least or the most amount of oranges. The third question will ask for the difference in oranges between two people. For example: “What is the difference in the amount of oranges between Carlos and Karla?” At the bottom of every themed page also includes a bonus question. The bonus question will ask the student to find the total number of fruit items that four different people have.

I have included the original Excel document that I created to make the themed pages as well as PDF files for each of the pages if you prefer to just print them directly as is. The benefit of having the Excel document is that you can randomize the numbers from the list of items that each person has so that the math problems will always be different. All you have to do is simply hit the F9 button and all the digits will randomly change to a new number (For some Excel versions or computers, you might have to hit the Control + Alt + F9 button at the same time to randomize the numbers). This is great if you want to give half the class one version of math problems and then the other half of the class a different version so that you can prevent some copying. But if you don’t want anything to do with Excel, you can simply just print the PDF files included in this purchase. The only downside by using just the PDF files is that the equations will always be the same.

I have also included a detailed page that elaborates how to use the Excel sheet to randomize or modify the questions as well as convert the Excel page to a PDF if you wish to do so.

**Because the sheets can be randomized to create new math problems, I did not include an answer key with this purchase.
