Description

This is a set of Boom digital task cards that allows students to work with the Friends of Ten in an engaging, fun way. Students will use missing addends and missing subtrahend algorithms to solve the problems. Students can move the jellybeans to easily count to get "What's Missing" making this difficult skill easier to understand.

Each slide has a voice recording for students who have difficulty reading. There is also a video recording of the directions for the addition and for the subtraction task cards.

There are 24 task cards in all.

  • 12 Addition missing addend task cards __ + 7 = 10 and 3 + __ = 10
  • 12 Subtraction missing subtrahend task cards 10 - __ = 7 and 10 - 3 = __

The task cards are in somewhat of a word problem form. See video preview.

The math facts only encompass with the ways to make 10. What a great way to introduce your students to the higher order thinking of missing addend and missing subtrahend since they should already be familiar with these facts.

There are no task cards in this file. Within a page of this file, you will be directed to the BOOM Learning site where you will have access to your digital task cards.

For any number from 1 to 9, find the number that makes 10 when added to the given number, e.g., by using objects or drawings, and record the answer with a drawing or equation.
Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten (e.g., 8 + 6 = 8 + 2 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (e.g., 13 - 4 = 13 - 3 - 1 = 10 - 1 = 9); using the relationship between addition and subtraction (e.g., knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 - 8 = 4); and creating equivalent but easier or known sums (e.g., adding 6 + 7 by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13).
