Included in this file is one instructional PowerPoint teaching students how to add two digit numbers with and without regrouping using expanded form.

What is included?

This resources includes several different pieces:

• One PowerPoint Slideshow (25 slides) modeling and practicing how to add two-digit numbers with and without regrouping.

• Three practice books with six problems in each book. The books practice addition without regrouping, addition with regrouping, and addition with and without regrouping. There are two versions of the books. One has all the boxes as prompts to support students and the other is blank.

• Three homework pages practicing addition without regrouping, addition with regrouping, and addition with and without regrouping

• A parent letter modeling and explaining the importance of adding using place value.

• A six problem assessment. There are two versions of the assessment. One has all the boxes as prompts to support students and the other is blank.

• Anchor chart modeling how to add with expanded form. The anchor chart is available as a full sheet or half sheet for students to glue into their math notebooks.

How do I use the PowerPoints?

In order to use these activities, you must have PowerPoint. I do not believe that the games can be played on a Mac.

Open the activity in PowerPoint. Some of the PowerPoints are simply slide shows. However, others that require clicking and dragging are different. For these, DO NOT start as a slide show. Simply view the show in Edit Mode and click and drag the pieces to move. When the students are ready to practice the next slide, select the next slide from the window. Please note that these slides must be viewed in Edit Mode. There are explicit teacher instructions included for the PowerPoint to avoid any confusion.

These activities are designed to be projected onto an interactive Smart Board or whiteboard. However, they can be played on any device that can play a PowerPoint presentation. Please note that these activities are not editable in order to be in compliance with the clip artists’ terms of use.
