What educators are saying

Great resource to share with parents about why these new strategies are so vital for young age children.

Description

There is very little printed material to direct parents to, when they ask how you are teaching their children to add and subtract with this "NEW MATH" (common core strategies). Set their minds at ease by handing them these "how-to" parent guides. These guide provide step-by-step instructions for teaching adding and subtraction using two Common Core strategies: an open number line and the break apart method with expanded form.

Included are practice pages for both methods with addition and subtraction, along with the instructional pages. Use these practice pages for homework, classroom instruction or assessment.

Parents want to be able to assist their children at home, especially with homework or test preparation. Without an understanding of these methods, they will feel uncertain and won't value these strategies. Instead, get your parents on your side, and enlist their support. Provide them these "how-to" guides. Your parents will be so grateful!

If you like this product, you will want to check out my other parent guides for teaching addition and subtraction using PLACE VALUE BLOCKS. I have created instructional lessons for the classroom as well, viewable on a smartboard, all designed around our Common Core.
