Description

Common Core Standard: 5.NFA.1

This activity is a fun matching game that will help students practice adding or subtracting fractions with unlike denominators and simplifying their answers. It includes 40 cards with built-in options for differentiation for both struggling and high-achieving learners.

In this set, you will find a base set of 16 fraction expressions and 16 solution cards. The cards are ordered in the PDF so that you can easily reduce the number of problems for students who may get overwhelmed. (Instructions included!) You will also find an additional 8 cards with expressions that will match to the base set. This gives your high-achieving learners an additional challenge to find the cards with multiple answers. There are also sets of "Write Your Own" cards, where you can challenge students to write a problem with the given answer, or blank cards for you to create your own challenge. Further differentiation instructions and ideas are included in the document!

A recording sheet and answer key is provided to allow students to self-check. This makes it a great activity for math centers or station learning since students can check themselves and work with a partner.

Included:
*Instructions and Standards Correlation Sheet
*Large Label for File Folder/Centers Organization
*24 Fraction Expression Cards
*16 Answer Cards
*8 "Write Your Own" Cards
*Student Answer Sheets (4 to a page)
*Answer Keys (One for regular, one for advanced level)

Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators. For example, 2/3 + 5/4 = 8/12 + 15/12 = 23/12. (In general, 𝘢/𝘣 + 𝘤/𝘥 = (𝘢𝘥 + 𝘣𝘤)/𝘣𝘥.)
