Description
Use visual models along with the standard algorithm to quickly and effectively teach your students how to add and subtract decimals using this digital resource pack.
Students will have a digital hands-on approach to “see” what it looks like to add and subtract decimals and connect this method to the standard algorithm. It’s great for visual learners as well as students that may struggle with memorizing algorithms.
This resource is complete, comprehensive, and easy to follow with a clear format. It is low-prep and easy to assign to a sub and contains engaging activities for use with Google Classroom.

What You’ll Get:
- 2 Complete Mini-Lessons: Adding Decimals & Subtracting Decimals
- 2 Mixed Practice Google Slides Activities
- 2 Sets of Digital Task Cards in Google Forms
- Quiz in Google Forms
What You’ll Get in EACH of the 2 mini-lessons:
- Detailed Notes in Google Slides
- Sample Problem in Google Slides
- 2 Practice Activities in Google Slides
- A “Create Your Own” Activity in Google Slides
- 7 Exit Tickets (3 models, 2 standard algorithm, 2 word problems) in Google Forms
How Can You Use This?
Introduce each skill with the detailed set of notes and sample problem in Google Slides. I suggest doing this in a whole group setting and pulling the slides up on a Smartboard if you’re in person or share the screen online if you’re teaching virtually.
Gradually release students to practice independently using the practice slides. There are 2 provided as well as a “create your own” slides activity. This is great to provide to students who are fast finishers or understand the concept quickly. They can create their own and share with a friend and have them complete it.
Use the exit tickets to determine mastery and create small groups for differentiation. When both skills have been taught, provide additional practice using the mixed practice slides activities. Review both skills with the digital task cards and assess mastery with the final quiz when you feel students are ready.
WHAT OTHER TEACHERS ARE SAYING…
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Probably one of my favorite resources I've purchased through TPT. Having different colors was very useful for students and for me to quickly assess if students were understanding the concept. Having online manipulatives for decimals was crucial to my students' success. - Merely N.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We are completely virtual and this was PERFECT for my students to model decimals while adding/subtracting! There were plenty of resources that I didn't even need to make any additional slides! Thank you for making this unit SO EASY for me! - Nicole C.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was amazing! I am teaching both in-class and virtual learning. My in-class was coloring grids and I had no idea how I was going to reproduce that for the virtual learners. Your resource saved me! It was such a simple concept too! I loved the fact that you also included the create your own as I was able to mix and match all of them to fit my needs. Thank you! - Julie D.
