Adapted Text of Vergil's Aeneid 1.1-7
- Google Docs™
Description
This is an adapted version of the first seven lines of Vergil's Aeneid. This reading presents Vergil's introduction of his great epic in more simplified Latin, and is intended for beginning-intermediate level readers of Latin. This reading has simplified the grammar and syntax, but kept much of the original vocabulary.
This reading specifically provides practice with past tense, active verb forms and pronoun (qui / hic / ille) forms. This resource can be used to not only provide reading practice, but also to introduce a larger unit on the Aeneid in combination with readings/videos in English. Alternatively, teachers of advanced readers can utilize this reading as a "warm up", preparing students for the more unedited version.
On this document is included the adapted text, reading notes, and selected vocabulary to assist with their reading. On the second page is an English translation for teacher reference.
