    Description

This is a bundle of both Cooperative Learning Structure Talking Chips SET 1- for all grades/ ages and SET 2 - extended thinking prompts! The conversation prompts can be used over and over to increase critical thinking with any content.

Students & adults have fun with Digital Talking Chips conversations on Jamboard! The structure requires thoughtful participation in discussion, and gives choice as to which stems/ order to use. The movable Jamboard "chips" or discussion cards are valuable for both distance learning and in class - or in PLC- discussions!

The ready-made Jamboard (and printables) are based on the Cooperative Learning structure Talking Chips. Student conversation is structured so everyone participates, has choice and options for how they will contribute, and is guided with accountable talk. (Plus, it's fun! )

The turn-taking Talking Chips in this set are layered with Visible Thinking Routines (i.e. See, Think, Wonder, What makes you say that?) & Accountable Talk sentence stems!

    Cooperative Structure Description:

Each student chooses one set of “talking chips", then..

    1) The students/ participants are given an open-ended discussion or reflection topic, or a content area prompt.

    2) In order to speak, a teammate must place their chip in the center of the team table. It is their turn to speak. Teammates cannot interrupt and must practice respectful listening.

    3) When they are finished, another student places their chip in the center of the team table and is free to add to the discussion.

    4) When a student uses all of their “talking chips”, they cannot speak again until all teammates have added to the discussion and placed their chips in the center of the table.

    5) When everyone has had a chance to speak, each student collects their chips and continues with the discussion or they may start again with a new topic.

Hint: set a timer! The conversations should last for the time allotted, not end when everyone uses up their chips! Gather the sets, and keep going! (this helps avoid the ‘we’re finished, now what?” hands up!)

Talking Chips regulates discussion, ensuring that everyone participates and most importantly, everyone in the group contributes.

    Thank you- have fun!!
