What educators are saying

I use this with all my students and they love it. I want to thank you for creating book about our nation's leaders.

Description

Finding nonfiction materials at an appropriate level for Presidents Day for young students is always difficult!! With that thought in mind, I created this little book about Abraham Lincoln for Presidents Day in kindergarten (or first grade) classrooms!!

This book has one fact per page with illustrations to support young readers. Many sight words are used to support early readers as they begin to read nonfiction text.

Title Page: Abraham Lincoln
Page 2: Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12th.
Page 3: He was born in Kentucky.
Page 4: He lived in a log cabin.
Page 5: When he was a little boy, he would read by candlelight.
Page 6: He was the 16th President of the United States.
Page 7: He made a great speech called the Gettysburg Address.
Page 8: We see his picture on the penny.
Page 9: We see his picture on the five dollar bill.
Page 10: We remember him with the Lincoln Memorial.
Page 11: We celebrate Presidents Day in February.

As you can see, this book is more difficult than the other emergent readers that I usually post; however, with opportunties for shared reading, kindergarteners can read this book successfully and learn about Abraham Lincoln and Presidents Day as well. This book would also be great for first graders around Presidents Day!!

This book includes the same text on both the top and bottom of each sheet of paper to make copying, sorting, stapling, and cutting easy to create a class set of little books!!

I also have a Reading and Writing Unit which includes this book, as well as a matching teacher version, a prewriting graphic organizer, writing papers, similar materials about George Washington, a Presidents Day Word Wall, a word building page, and 2 word searches (different levels).

If you like this emergent reader,
you might like some of my other little books that would be great to use in your kindergarten classroom during the month of February.

**100th Day of School Emergent Reader**
**Colorful Hearts**
**Happy Valentine’s Day**
**George Washington, George Washington, What Do You See… a predictable text with many American symbols included **
**George Washington Early Reader… a nonfiction text written at approximately a Level C or D**

Thanks for looking and happy teaching!!!
