ART Cards: Cubism

Reward good behavior with ART Cards featuring a brief overview of Pablo Picasso and the Cubism art movement. The downloadable file includes (18) FREE parodies featuring fun pop culture icons. I've printed each page separately on a piece of letter-sized paper (8.5"x11"), and glued the front and backs of the prints on card stock to give a substantial look and feel. My students absolutely LOVE them and are better behaved with the hopes of choosing one. ART Cards are fun, engaging and educational.

The content of one side of the card provides a brief overview of Pablo Picasso, the Cubism art movement, and vocabulary words to get students better acquainted with terms commonly used in the art field.

Pablo Picasso (1881-1973)

Pablo Picasso was a Spanish artist who experimented with many different forms of art including painting, sculpture, ceramics and printmaking. Picasso painted many portraits and it is believed that he produced nearly 150,000 pieces of art in his lifetime. One thing Pablo Picasso is most famous for is co-creating an artistic style known as Cubism in which geometric shapes are used to simplify form. Critics originally considered Cubist paintings repulsive however they are now widely accepted for their uniqueness and beauty.

Cubism: a style of art which combined flatness, simplified shapes and multiple perspectives to show all possible viewpoints of a person or object.

Shape: an element of art that is a two-dimensional design enclosed by lines.
