Description

This is an AP Lit prose essay prompt on "The Story of an Hour" by Kate Chopin. This is a great prompt because it is asking what is only implied, which students have difficultly identifying in a short story like "The Story of an Hour" since nothing is directly stated in the story.

The students have a hard time identifying what is implied in the story, which I find is a great teaching opportunity.

I have included my annotations of the story as well as an outline.

Please refer to the new grading rubrics College Board changed in 2019. I have a reformatted prose essay analysis rubric that is only two pages so it can be copied back to back or minimized to fit on one page.
