AP Lang - Argument and Synthesis Essays Activities and Resources

This product is a bundle of two resources designed to help students succeed on the AP Language and Composition synthesis and argument essays. I have compiled what has worked well in my classrooms for both me and my students. In this bundle, you can find the following:

SYNTHESIS
1) Overview of the synthesis essay with tips
2) Sample prompt with annotations/explanations
3) How to introduce and connect sources (activities and models)
4) Activities for analyzing visual sources
5) Useful transitions, phrases, stems for concession, refutation, and building off of sources
6) Practice prompt (use as you see fit in addition to the College Board prompts).
7) Activities for connecting sources
8) Assignment for students to build their own prompts with source materials
9) Thesis statements – samples and activity
10) Synthesis essay outline and peer editing activity to use with any prompt

ARGUMENT
1)12 original prompts to use in addition to the already available College Board prompts
2) Brainstorming activities and an organizer to help students generate evidence and analyze the prompt with more complexity
3) Open and closed thesis examples and guidelines
4) Peer editing roles students can use after practice or graded timed writings
5) Station activity using prompts from the College Board
