Description

This comprehensive syllabus for AP Language and Composition was approved in 2015 according to the revised College Board curricular requirements. Inside, you'll find a year-long course plan for reading and writing, including themed units. Each unit includes a timeline, overview, learning objectives, and rationale. Use the syllabus to construct or revise your own AP Language and Composition course!

This College Board approved syllabus divides the school year into thematic units:
Introduction
Education
Us & Them (Cultural Conflict)
Gender & Beauty
Money
Nature & the Frontier
Landmark Rhetoric
Review/Conclusion

Thematic units are chosen to help students develop archival knowledge that will support them in answering the argument question on the exam.

A spiraling approach to rhetorical analysis, argument, and synthesis is taken, incorporating increasingly complex skills and content into each unit. General learning goals are identified in each unit (all are explicitly aligned to AP standards).

Student texts:
Carnevale, Linda. Hot Words for the Sat. Hauppauge, N.Y: Barrons Educational Series, 2013. Print.
