Activity Types:
*How many ways can you show...? (10)
Students must show 3 ways to make the given number with place value blocks. This skill is an essential first step before showing students how to regroup. This activity helps them see that numbers can be shown in multiple ways. For example, 120 is the same as one hundred and two tens OR twelve tens.
*Draw it out (10)
Students draw the problem and find the solution. This helps them to SEE the problem & the concept of regrouping. This can be done with Expo markers & personal whiteboards.
*True or False (10)
Students decide if a given problem is true or false.
*Would you rather? (10)
Students must choose the highest between two given amounts. They will have to add and subtract to determine the amounts for each box.
*Word problems (5)
5 Word Problems with addition or subtraction. Students must read the problem to determine if they need to add or subtract, then solve.
