AAC Core Words of the Week: 2 Words/Week - Month 2

This is the second set of posters and interactive books to teach AAC users two core vocabulary words a week. This set covers four weeks for a total of eight core vocabulary words targeted in one month! The posters provide ideas for teachers, paraprofessionals, parents, and other staff to facilitate the use of these core words in naturalistic contexts.

“Core words are versatile and applicable to all environments and topics. Core words can be taught and reinforced in a variety of sensory-rich activities and allow for quick and easy two-word combinations. They allow the individual to express a variety of communicative functions in any environment with a small number of words.” (Halloran, 2012)

Month 2 includes the following words:

1. Yes & No

2. Play & Turn

3. In & Out

4. Look & Help

The interactive books are 14 pages long with 12 interactive pictures are perfect for teaching the students the words.

Editable posters and interactive books are also included in a powerpoint version if you would like to include the student's AAC symbols. I used generic symbols through Smartysymbols. These work out better for me since my students have different AAC devices. If you would like to tailor it to a specific student the editable powerpoint would be great!
