What educators are saying

An excellent product that has really helped my students to focus on what they need to do in order to solve multi-step word problems!
I used this resource to teach a lesson I was doing for an observation. It was so helpful to have the visuals and the ideas from the resource were also helpful as well! I just loved this resource! Thank you!

Description

If you teach elementary-level mathematics, you have likely heard of and at one point utilized Polya's Four Step Plan for problem-solving. Using the Understand, Plan, Solve, and Check (UPSC) model, students are able to solve single and multi-step word problems.

This resource pack is based on Polya's model with a significant (I feel) improvement -- a half-step, prior to understand: visualize.

This pack includes the following elements:
• how to’s and background information on the “4.5 Step Plan”
• anchor charts, in English and Spanish {poster and one-page sizes}
• completed example of a 4.5 Step Plan with "math talk" bubbles for your focus wall
• mini-lesson for teaching visualizing with an original poem and printable resources
EDITABLE templates to create word problems using the 4.5-step format in both PowerPoint and SMART Notebook
• information for teaching with gestures {including a short video example, and a version of the anchor chart to include student photos}
• dry-erase mat templates for small group learning
• interactive notebook template
• student bookmarks

Please utilize the preview to see what's included, and don't hesitate to leave a question if you need additional clarification on what's included in this resource or how it can be utilized in your classroom.
