Description

In this sweet activity or assignment, the center of 6 "synonym-cinnamon rolls" have a worn-out vocabulary words that students need to replace with more stronger, more precise words in their writing (good, mad, sad, happy, bad, etc.).

Students are instructed to use their brains and/or a thesaurus to find 4 stronger synonyms to replace each worn-out word. The, they write these 4 words on the “swirl” of the synonym roll.

This can be completed as an assignment or the PDF can be imported into SMART file or a Promethean board Flipchart to be completed in class as a group.

The students could keep the "synonym roll" sheet as a reference to use all year long! It is memorable reference, so you can say "think about synonym rolls" when they aren't using precise vocabulary choices.
