What educators are saying

My kids loved watching the black and white version and completing these activities. Even my reluctant learners were engaged with this content. Thanks for the great resource!
My students enjoyed this resource with their Novel Study. I helped us dive deeper into the book. I really liked the text dependent questions that came with the resource.

Description

Add rigor to your movie viewing experience with this A Raisin in the Sun: Movie Viewing Guide. This pack of activities is an excellent way to add some rigor to your viewing of the 1961 or 2008 A Raisin in the Sun movie. It is not a play to film comparison guide. These activities are tailored specifically for this movie!

Student Experience: From a thorough active viewing guide to an analysis of symbols and theme to a paired poem to an argumentative prompt, students will be challenged as you teach this film as a text. I love using movie guides as students watch films because they require students to apply a wide range of strategies to comprehend, interpret, evaluate, and appreciate texts beyond the surface. You may use one or all of the enclosed NO PREP activities to focus your studies.

Classroom success stories from other teachers who have tried this resource:

♥ "Asks all the right questions to keep the kids engaged. An excellent, visually appealing resource! My kids were supposed to read the play but we were short on time so we watched the film instead - this was a great way to keep them on task."

♥ "I loved having so many choices of engaging activities from which to compile a packet for my seniors when reading this timeless play."

♥ "I used this as a final after reading the play paired with the movie. The students really enjoyed it and the worksheets took zero prep."

♥ "My students read the play and watched the movie while I was testing another group. This helped them to stay engaged during the movie in my absence."

♥ "This is a product that is easily 4/4! Snow days didn't allow my students to read the play, but we were able to view the film shortly after learning about Langston Hughes, it was great to see the students connections and they were incredibly engaged with this packet/worksheets. Even though this wasn't the original way I wanted to teach this play, I think it was refreshing to do a "film study" for my students. We have a new energy in the room to hopefully last through the end of the year! Thanks!"

♥ "The resource was excellent and paired well with the Raisin in the Sun film with Sidney Poitier or the new one with Sean P. Diddy Combs. I would like a Google Form to go with a few of the quizzes...that would be a nice addition."

♥ "I truly enjoy everything I get from you!! My students were scheduled to read this play. However, I ran out of time. I decided to watch the movie instead. This was a great way to hold them accountable as well as still have some of the discussions and writing exercises I needed to do. Thank you!!!"
