Let's practice all those new question types on 5th grade science STAAR. You have access to 5 sets of BOOM cards for matter, energy, earth, and life science. That's 100 total questions!

To be sure they are prepared, The Science Penguin is offering a set of Boom Cards for each of the 4 reporting categories and a set that includes all 4 reporting categories. Use throughout the year during each unit to be sure students are exposed to the new question types.

Boom Cards

Boom Cards are a versatile tool that allow your students to answer different question types using an interactive, self-checking platform. You must use the Boom website or app to access the cards.

You DO need a Boom Learning account to use this resource. Click the link within the PDF you download to get set up and access the question cards in the interactive platform.

Why are we using Boom?

After researching different platforms that will help prepare students for STAAR 2.0, we selected Boom Learning because it best met our needs. This platform allows us to introduce various question types to students in an easy-to-use way. Most other platforms just can't do what Boom can.

In the paid version of Boom, you can track students' learning and set up individual accounts. With a free account you can still project the questions for games or demonstrations or share a link for individuals to use.

Since I'm also new to Boom, I provided a free set of cards so you can take a look and decide if Boom Cards are right for you.

2. This file is included in 5th Grade Science Bundle {Texas Edition} and 5th Grade Science STAAR Bundle.

3. To use Boom Cards, you must be connected to the Internet. Boom Cards play on modern browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge). Apps are available for modern Android, iPads, iPhones, and Kindle Fires. For security and privacy, adults must have a Boom Learning account to use and assign Boom Cards. You will be able to assign the Boom Cards you are buying with "Fast Pins," (a form of play that gives instant feedback to students for self-grading Boom Cards).
