5th Grade Math RTI Computational Fluency Progress Monitoring

How important is computational fluency anyway? If students are fluent in basic computational skills, they are free to focus on other important parts of a problem! This is huge especially considering the shift to the Common Core!

Providing evidence of students learning is crucial. Progress monitoring will allow you to document student growth and make sure that the interventions that you administer are working. Everything you need to assess and track students is provided here.

We all know that at the beginning of the school year we can’t expect students to automatically be able perform on grade level. That is why the first nine assessments (1st quarter) are included for the previous grade level. Assess students at the beginning of the year to see where they are. Provide interventions in the beginning to prepare them for grade level computation!

Assessment for 2nd through 4th quarter are based on 5th grade standards and include:

Three baseline assessments to gather each students' baseline data.

In addition, there are 27 curriculum based monitoring probes and corresponding answer keys.

Progress monitoring forms and graphs are provided in both printable and 100% editable form.

These assessments were created to align with the 5th grade Common Core Standards, but can also be used for below level 6th graders.

The following computational standards are addressed:

5.NBT.2 - Exponents (multiply & divide)

5.NBT.5 - Multiplying whole numbers

5.NBT.6 - Dividing whole numbers

5.NBT.7 - Add, subtract, multiply, & divide decimals

5.NF.1 - Add & subtract fractions and mixed numbers

5.NF.1, 4, & 7 - Reduce fractions

5.NF.3 - Relate fractions and division

5.NF.4 - Multiply fractions

5.NF.7 - Divide fractions and whole numbers
