Description
This fun pumpkin song (rhyme, poem) for carpet time is one of my students’ favorites! It works great for a shapes, pumpkins, fall, autumn, or leaves thematic unit. This is a great activity for teaching students to take away and to recognize objects to 5. A black and white version is included so that students can create their own 5 pumpkins to sing about. This is also a great activity for teaching students to recognize and name different shapes.
To Prep:
Print, cut, and laminate pumpkins and instructions. I print all the pumpkins so that I can change out the shapes or use more than 5 for a challenge.
To Play:
Set 5 pumpkins out in the middle of the carpet or place them on a whiteboard with magnets attached.

Continue singing until all the pumpkins are gone!
I ask students to hold up the number of fingers that matches how many pumpkins we have to keep them engaged and to practice counting.
