5 Little Monkeys: Interactive Book, Props + Activities

5 Little Monkeys is a much loved nursery rhyme in early childhood classrooms and early intervention settings. This resource is designed to support children, who may have special needs such as autism, to engage with the nursery rhyme and work on various IEP goals through an interactive book, props and activities. It is also suitable for mainstream Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms. I have chosen to include resources that work well with the rhyme such as counting 1-5, sequencing events and following instructions.

This Listing Includes:

Interactive book

• 8 Interactive pages in which students place a visual matching the page (numbers 1-5, mama and the doctor).
• Cover and backing page.
• Instructions for assembly.

Rhyme Props:

• 5 monkeys with numbers
• 5 monkeys without numbers
• mama monkey
• doctor monkey
• bed

These work well attached to a popsticks, magnets or Velcro for use on a felt board. Students can 'tell the story' using the props.

Rhyme Lyrics Posters:

• Color and black and white versions. Good for students poetry books or as a classroom display.

Mini Book Counting 1-5.

• Each page has the sentence "I see ____ monkeys" students write in the correct number 1-5.
• In black and white so students can color the pictures.

Mini Book Words

• 7 pages with words from the rhyme. Words can be traced.
• In black and white so students can color the pictures.

Sequencing Cards:

• 5 sequencing cards for retelling the story in order. In color only.

Open ended Worksheet

• Simple background and 6 visuals that can be cut and pasted anywhere on the page. Great for following instructions or fine motor skills (pencil grip, scissor skills).
• To be used with verbal instructions from a teacher/SLP e.g. color the monkey pink, put the doctor next to the bed. Instructions not included as these should be personalised for your individual students ability level.

Pages saved as letter size. Can be printed onto A4 leaving a small white border.

This resource requires prep such as laminating, cutting and attaching Velcro.
