5 Little Cookies Gingerbread Carpet Time Song | Carpet Game Preschool Christmas

This fun gingerbread or winter song (rhyme, poem) for carpet time is one of my students’ favorites! It works great for a Christmas, winter, or gingerbread thematic unit. This is a great activity for teaching students to recognize quantities to 5 and to practice counting and one to one correspondence. A black and white version is included so that students can create their own song to sing about as a math center activity or a extension activity to take home! I also like to bring these materials to the math center.

Set Up: Print and laminate sentence strips, cookies, and student 5 frames. Print cookie counters or use mini erasers, real cookies, or other counters.

Play: Set the sentence strips out on a pocket chart with the gingerbread cut outs at the top. Sing the rhyme then call on a student to remove a cookie from the chart. Change the number by putting the number card over the number 5 Continue singing until no cookies are left. Students can work along on their own 5 frame mats or can hold up the correct number of fingers.
