Description

Kick off the school year by getting your students excited for learning about child development! The unit introduces students to each developmental domain and includes an essay at the end of the unit. The essay answers the question, Why is it important to study child development? Also, all of the assignments can be completed remotely!

Standard: 12.1.1 Analyze physical, emotional, social, moral, and cognitive development.

Assignment Introduction: Children develop in the following domains:

  • Physical
  • Gross and Fine Motor
  • Social-Emotional
  • Language
  • Cognitive

The developmental domains listed above start developing early in life, sometimes even before the child is born! Developmental domains sometimes overlap. For example, a child’s language typically overlaps with his/her cognitive development because a child must think a thought, before saying it aloud. To learn more about each domain and the impact that it has on the early childhood population, you will watch and reflect on a series of Ted Talks. Each developmental domain correlates with a specific TedTalk, as indicated in the chart below.

Instructions

  1. Read through the Developmental Domain Summary as an introduction to child development.
  2. After reading the chart, you will watch the videos.
  3. Watch the link for physical development and reflect using the Ted Talk Reflection.
