4th and 5th Grade State Essay Writing Test Prep Bundle

Do you struggle teaching your 4th and 5th graders how to write multi-paragraph essays for the state writing tests? I have developed a systematic process for modeling effective writing strategies that students can carry over to the test and independently produce both an opinion or informative/explanatory essay!

Repetition of skills is KEY and I’ve provided four additional sets of prompts and articles for student practice in addition to the completely modeled examples for each type of writing!

Through 10 detailed lesson plans, teachers will help students tackle unpacking the prompts, creating their own outlining tool (from that blank, scratch paper!), pulling and correctly citing evidence from related high level paired reading passages, and writing effective introduction, detail, and conclusion paragraphs using a strong model-STEP BY STEP!

From there, students are given the tools to revise and edit their own writing, as well as using a peer edit checklist tool. A detailed rubric is also included for assessment purposes.

This method has helped my own students become confident, skilled writers. As a whole, my classes have routinely scored in the 80% (or higher) range on the Language Arts state tests with writing being a very strong component! I encourage to try and adopt this process for your own students!
