4th Grade Math Enrichment Plan A Vacation Project: Multiplication and Division

This multiplication and division math project is perfect for engaging 4th-grade gifted and talented students. Early finishers get to plan a vacation while diving deeper into multiplication and division problems. Students will enjoy designing a resort in this project-based learning math activity. In this challenge, students will design a vacation resort, think mathematically, and create an advertisement to showcase their work.

This multiplication and division project can be assigned digitally through Google Classroom and TPT Easel. You may also print the multiplication and division packet for gifted and talented students in your math class.

✅ Wrap up math units with your whole class by assigning this project-based learning activity. 

✅ Evaluate the abilities of your gifted and talented students through a pretest at the beginning of a unit. If they pass before receiving instruction, provide them with this independent math project instead. 

✅ Invite students to complete this project-based learning assignment with a partner or small group to encourage math discussion. 

✅ Print activities or assign them through digital means (Google Classroom, TPT Easel, etc.)

My 4th-grade students completed this project at the end of our multiplication and division unit. It involves a balance of creativity and interest along with real-world problems. I have also given this independent project to gifted students as an extension activity.

• Whole numbers are used throughout the project. Students may choose to add decimals to one of the elements if they are ready for more of a challenge.

• The Design a Resort Multiplication and Division Project aligns most closely with 4th-grade standards but can be used as an extension in 3rd and 5th grades as well.

• This multiplication and division project includes elements and problems. The elements spark students’ creative ideas. This is where they choose a theme for their resort, list the fun activities included for vacationers, and plan out the dining hall! Following each element, students solve a series of math problems using the numbers and details they created in their element. 

✋How can I differentiate for students with this math project?

• Guide students in choosing simpler numbers to perform easier math problems or greater numbers for more complex calculations. Use the translated worksheets in English, Spanish, or French to help ELL students.
