Description

These are suggested vocabulary words to go with Fourth Grade Common Core Math Unit 1: Place Value, Rounding and Estimation. Words include: algorithm, digit, estimate, expanded form, word form, standard form, numbers, period, place value, and rounding. Cards are complete with word and matching picture, to assist the supported child. These word cards should be posted in your classroom. They will be used in context throughout the unit (and the school year!). Students can make the word wall interactive by completing activities related to the vocabulary. They can write their own definition of the word and give examples in their math notebook/journal. They can draw a picture of the word. They can play word games with friends. Just cut and laminate and you are all set. The cards are editable. I have included a few blank cards, so you can add additional words to the template. I copied mine on colored paper to make it more fun. Enjoy!

Recognize that in a multi-digit whole number, a digit in one place represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right. For example, recognize that 700 ÷ 70 = 10 by applying concepts of place value and division.
Read and write multi-digit whole numbers using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form. Compare two multi-digit numbers based on meanings of the digits in each place, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons.
Use place value understanding to round multi-digit whole numbers to any place.
Fluently add and subtract multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm.
