4th & 5th Grade Writer's Academy / STAAR Expository Writing Prep Packets Bundle

• Low-prep writing activity

In these packets, students are guided through using the Writing Academy approach to writing an expository composition in a STAAR-test format. They start with a page to brainstorm. There is an area to think about where to add splashes, fun words, figurative language, transition words or phrases, determine their introduction style, and then write a conclusion connected to their introduction. Afterwards, they will write their rough draft, and then they will revise or edit their drafts. They also have a section for a second draft. Parents or peers can read and give feedback too, and then they will be ready for their final drafts.

I assigned this as homework some years, and in other years, this was the material we used during our writing block in class. I love having it all together so that students practice the entire writing process in clearly defined steps.

There are a total of 5 packets that can be assigned weekly.
