Description

Time to review for the 3rd grade Virginia Math SOL? Use this Jeopardy-style game to review concepts from SOL Strand 3 (Measurement and Geometry). Strand 3 has a LOT of content so I'm breaking it up into two review games. Keep reading to see exactly which standards are included. Students will love working in teams during this fun, no-prep activity!

What are the categories?

  • Length (SOL 3.7a)
  • Volume (SOL 3.7b)
  • Temperature (SOL 3.10)
  • Area (SOL 3.8b)
  • Time (SOL 3.9)

How does it work?

  • Students work in teams (up to five teams if you use the digital scoreboard)
  • Take turns letting teams pick a category and point value. 100 point questions are the easiest and 500 point questions are the hardest.
  • Every team answers the question. To check the answer, click on the "Answer" button and it will transition to a slide with the answer.
  • To reward team points, click on the calculator icon and tap to add points.
  • Point values and categories will reset when you exit presentation mode. If you are unfinished, jot down team scores and which questions remain!

Is it editable?

No, but you can type in team names.

What standards did you use to create the questions?

SOL 3.7 The student will estimate and U.S. Customary and metric units to measure...

a. length to the nearest 1/2 inch, inch, foot, yard, centimeter, and meter

b. liquid volume in cups, pints, quarts, gallons, and liters

SOL 3.8 The student will estimate and...

b. count the number of square units needed to cover a given surface in order to determine its area

SOL 3.9 The student will...

a. tell time to the nearest minute, using analog and digital clocks

b. solve practical problems related to elapsed time in one-hour increments within a 12-hour period

c. identify equivalent periods of time and solve practical problems related to equivalent periods of time

SOL 3.10 The student will read temperature to the nearest degree.

I hope your kids LOVE this activity and you find it helpful as you prepare for the big test!
