What educators are saying

It was a very engaging resource. VERY HELPFUL! Students were actively engaged. It was easy to prepare.
This is a great resource I used at my teacher table during centers to reinforce finding missing side measurements for area and perimeter. Perfect questions for state testing review.

Description

These area and perimeter task cards are a great way to practice finding the length of an unknown side.

Each card has a picture of a real life object. Some of the dimensions are labeled but one is missing (indicated by a ?). The questions provide either the total area or perimeter and ask students to find the length of the missing side.

Includes:

  • 20 area and perimeter task cards
  • recording sheet
  • answer key
  • digital version

The task cards are provided in 2 different formats:

  • 1/4 page - For individual student use or small groups
  • Full page - For whole group instruction or display through your interactive whiteboard

DIGITAL FORMAT

This resource also includes a digital version in Easel. The task cards are already prepared with answer boxes inserted for students to type into. They can be assigned to students to complete on any device. For more information on Easel Activities see this GETTING STARTED GUIDE.

Recognize area as an attribute of plane figures and understand concepts of area measurement.
Relate area to the operations of multiplication and addition.
Multiply side lengths to find areas of rectangles with whole-number side lengths in the context of solving real world and mathematical problems, and represent whole-number products as rectangular areas in mathematical reasoning.
Solve real world and mathematical problems involving perimeters of polygons, including finding the perimeter given the side lengths, finding an unknown side length, and exhibiting rectangles with the same perimeter and different areas or with the same area and different perimeters.
Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real world and mathematical problems. For example, find the width of a rectangular room given the area of the flooring and the length, by viewing the area formula as a multiplication equation with an unknown factor.
